Spreading the Word on Knicks Poetry Slam

On Tuesday, October 13 and Friday, October 16, the Knicks hosted an orientation at Madison Square Garden for area teachers to promote the Knicks Poetry Slam. With over 300 entrees into last year’s spittin’ competition and over 1,300 attendees at the Open Audition College Fair, Knicks Poetry Slam continues to look to grow to new heights.
The annual orientations were well received by the teachers who had an opportunity to ask questions and hear about the program from Knicks Alumnus John Starks, Karin Buchholz, Vice President of Community Relations and Fan Development, MSG Sports Teams, and one of last year’s runner-ups Cynthia “Ceez” Keteku.
This year’s Slam has over $350,000 in grants and prizes available for the winners including scholarships from University of Wisconsin and Mercy College, as well as a school equipment drop provided by Nike.
Following each of the orientations, the teachers were invited to attend the corresponding pre-season game.
Knicks Poetry Slam Open Audition and College Fair will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Hammerstein Ballroom. For more information on Knicks Poetry Slam, please visit knickspoetryslam.com.
