MSG’s "Last Man Standing" Tournament Results

NEW YORK, November 1, 2005Corey Williams of Queens was crowned the one-on-one basketball king of the Tri-State area. That distinction was awarded on Sunday, October 30th at Madison Square Garden’s Last Man Standing One-On-One Basketball Tournament” presented by McDonald’s with apparel by Game Over benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities ® of New York and New Jersey. Williams, now a resident of Denver, was recently cut by the Toronto Raptors where he averaged 4.0 ppg in four preseason games. He drove off in a 2006 Toyota Camry, which will be detailed and upgraded by former Knick, Jerome “JYD” Williams. He also received season tickets to the Knicks for the 2005-06 season, $2,000 in cash, a championship jacket and trophy. Williams nailed a game winning “two-point” shot while trailing 6-5 to defeat former Hofstra guard, Anthony “PJ” Davis in the Last Man Finals. Tim “Headache” Gittens defeated Damian “Country” Mills in the consolation game to finish third. Davis walked away with $1,000, Gittens, $750 and Mills, $500.

The qualifying events began in July and ran through August with eight regional one-day tournaments with over 300 participants at McDonald’s locations in the boroughs of New York, as well as New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island. The top players from each location advanced to MSG for the one-on-one championship of the tri-state area.
