Participants included Marcus Camby, actress Michael Michele ("ER"), Charlie Ward, Howard Eisley, the Knicks City Dancers, Knicks Director of Entertainment Marketing Petra Pope as well as other Knicks staffers. During the 2001-02 season, in conjunction with the NBA's "Read to Achieve" initiative, the Knicks will create "The Knicks Reading Zones" in five elementary schools, one in each borough of New York City. The Knicks Reading Zones will be special designated areas created in either the school library or a classroom that utilize the power and celebrity of the Knicks brand and its players to promote literacy, applaud academic commitment and inspire kids to use their imagination. The Knicks Reading Zones are voluntary, independent reading centers, providing schools with fun, safe, interactive and highly visible spaces to promote reading to their students. The Knicks Reading Zone Program is presented by Barnes & Noble and Verizon Wireless.
