Annual Knicks Dream Day Returns with a New Twist

On Monday, October 12, Knicks players and coaches celebrated the Fourth Annual Knicks Dream Day at the MSG Training Center in Greenburgh. The annual celebration included a player-guided tour of the team training facility, a basketball clinic and autograph session for 30 young men from the Children’s Village. Following Training Center activities, Knicks players joined the children for a special court enhancement project on the campus of Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry.

Greeted upon their arrival by Knicks alumnus John Starks, and current Liberty player Essence Carson, the guests of honor settled into the Liberty lounge for an afternoon snack before being welcomed by Knicks Head Coach Mike D’Antoni, and nine members of the 2009-10 New York Knicks team including David Lee, Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries. Children were then split into groups and embarked on a tour of the training facility which included a stop inside the Knicks locker room where they were surprised with their own personalized Knicks jerseys.

“This day is all about the children, it is great to see the smiles on their faces,” said Knicks forward, David Lee. “A few hours of our day can really go a long way and help them forget what they have been through”.

Upon conclusion of the tour, children proceeded to the Knicks practice court where they were individually introduced by MSG Public Address announcer Joe Tolleson. Following their introductions, Knicks players led the group through a fun-filled basketball clinic and autograph session.

After their MSG Training Center adventure, the children returned to the Children’s Village Campus to meet remaining members of the New York Knicks team including Chris Duhon, Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari. Knicks players joined their friends from Children’s Village for an afternoon of enhancing the school’s outdoor basketball court Court enhancements included installing pole padding, assembling team benches and bleachers, and repainting the backboards and court.

“From our court to their court, we covered everything today and hopefully made an impact that will last for some time” said former Knicks star, John Starks. “We’re one community, New York, and the Knicks are out here showing children love through Garden of Dreams.”

Proud of their accomplishments, the children enjoyed a barbeque dinner alongside Knicks players or more information on the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a non profit charity that works closely with all areas of Madison Square Garden, including the Rangers, Knicks, Liberty, MSG Entertainment, MSG Media and fuse to "make dreams come true for kids in crisis," please log onto gardenofdreamsfoundation.org.
