For the second year, the New York Knickerbockers and MSG Network are sponsoring the Dave DeBusschere Award, which will be given to the top male and female high-school student athlete in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut on an annual basis. The award winners will be determined by criteria that are representative of the qualities the late Knick great and NBA Hall of Famer were known for: outstanding overall excellence in athletics (not limited to basketball), academics and community service. DeBusschere, an NBA Hall-of-Famer and one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history, passed away suddenly on May 14, 2003.

Nominations for the award are being accepted throughout the 2006-2007 school year. The award will also be promoted throughout the year on Knicks broadcasts and on "High School Sports Weekly" on MSG Network. The awards for the 2005-2006 season were given to Angelo Laroche and Melanie Murphy on April 7.
