The award, named in honor of the Knicks’ first African-American player, Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, recognizes those that have made a significant difference in the lives of others. Each month, a winner is chosen by members of the Knicks front office staff and honored at Madison Square Garden’s center court prior to a home game. Each winner receives a $2,000 donation, in their name, to a charity of their choice. Worms and Mazuzan will accept the award during Saturday night’s Knicks/Raptors game and have named The FDNY Foundation as the beneficiary of the donation.
Patrick Worms, a rookie paramedic and his partner, Kevin Mazuzan, are credited with saving the life of a 13-year-old student who went into cardiac arrest in her Bronx classroom this past Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Worms, who graduated from paramedic training just one day prior, was on the job for a mere six hours when he and Mazuzan got the call. Upon arrival to Middle School 301 in The Bronx, they immediately got to work. Within minutes, the child had a pulse and her heart began to beat again. The child is currently listed in stable condition at NYU Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.
