Knicks Aid Volunteer Fire Company
NEW YORK, March 1, 2002 - The Knicks' Shandon Anderson and Charlie Ward have donated $10,000 to aid the Aviation Volunteer Fire
Company, which lost its fire truck in the World Trade Center
collapse.
The Aviation Volunteer Fire Company is one of five volunteer companies in New York City, mostly located in the outer beach communities. The company answered the call on September 11 along with the hundreds of NYFD personnel, and their fire truck was destroyed when the World Trade Center towers collapsed. Since they are totally self-sufficient they have had no money to repair the truck, which is located now in a repair shop in the Bronx.
When the Knicks heard about the plight, Shandon Anderson and Charlie Ward agreed to contribute $10,000 to help repair their truck, and presented a check to the company during an on-court ceremony at Friday night's game against Seattle.
