On Tuesday, February 28 The New York Knicks and Garden of Dreams hosted a special Show Kids New York event at Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York City for 20 children from Garden of Dreams partner organization WHEDco., Building a Greater Bronx. Throughout the season, Show Kids New York events provide children from various Garden of Dreams partner organizations the opportunity to experience New York City landmarks alongside Madison Square Garden celebrities. On this day, the children ages 7-11 were treated to a event filled with candy, gifts, food, laughter and fun!

Current Knicks players Baron Davis, J.R. Smith, Bill Walker, Jerome Jordan and Josh Harrellson joined the kids in various activities and games. The excitement ran high throughout the entire event, where the children were thrilled to get their face painted as well as decorate their own gum ball machine. Players and children were able to personalize their very own gum ball machine with crayons, stickers, markers and many other decorations. The Dylan’s Candy bar staff pumped up the party with a freeze dance competition where the players as well as the children’s dance talents were highlighted! The games ended with an intense game of Musical Chairs where it came down to the final three, J.R. Smith, Bill Walker and Alejandra from Garden of Dreams. First, Alejandra knocked out both Bill Walker, then took the title of “Champion of Musical Chairs” by grabbing the last seat against J.R. Smith.

At the conclusion of the event, pizza, candy and drinks were served along with gift bags the children were treated to by the Knicks players and Garden of Dreams. But there was one last surprise, a candy shopping spree for all. In their own Dylan’s Candy Bar bucket, they were able to fill it up with their favorite candy in the store. With this last surprise, it made it a very “sweet” ending to a fun-filled event.
