#NYK70 | 1947: John Condon's Tryout as "Voice of the Knicks"

“Good evening, everybody. Welcome to Madison Square Garden.” Those familiar words were delivered for 42 seasons by John Condon, who was invited to try out for the Knicks’ public address job while attending a game during the team’s second season. He got the gig, and never left.

“You know, they never came back and told me I had the job,” Condon joked not long before his death in 1989, at age 75. “Maybe I ought to call them and find out.”
