NBA Rookie of the Year, Tyreke Evans Named International Honorary Chairman For Operation Healthy Africa

Dr. Popoola leads Medical Mission to help save lives in Africa

Los Angeles, CA, June 22, 2011 -- Operation Healthy Africa, a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation proudly announced today that NBA Rookie of the year and Sacramento Kings player, Tyreke Evans, has been named International Honorary Chairman for Operation Healthy Africa.

“We are blessed and honored that Tyreke Evans will serve as our International Honorary Chairman,” said Dr. Popoola President of Operation Healthy Africa. “Tyreke is a special person, who is committed to helping those in need.”

Tyreke Evans was drafted in 2009 with the Fourth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings. Evans was only the fourth person in history to average 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists as a rookie. He has just completed his second season in the NBA.

“I am proud to be associated with Operation Healthy Africa,” said Tyreke Evans. “This is a cause close to my heart, and I look forward to doing all I can to support this very important and much needed effort.”

The final details of the Medical Mission to Eruwa, Nigeria, June 27 – July 1, 2011 were also released today. The mission will be called Restore Vision and Change a Life, and the main focus is to assist individuals that have partially lost eyesight, are in need of glasses, contacts, or need major surgery to remove cataracts or prevent diseases that will cause blindness.

The mission will be led by Dr. Popoola, President of Operation Healthy Africa, who will be accompanied by a team of medical professionals that bring a total of 150 years of medical experience. Dr. Tyree Carr, Medical Director of Nevada Institute of Ophthalmology, will execute the ocular surgeries. This will be the first mission held in the country of Nigeria, for the past three years Operation Healthy Africa (formerly known as Operation Heal Africa) has treated over 8,000 patients and donated over $50,000 in medical supplies from missions in Bombo, Uganda. A trip back to Uganda is scheduled for August of 2011.

“It is important that we can continue to expand the regions and countries we perform our medical missions on the continent of Africa. Many of our patients we treat for curable diseases, and minor medical issues that lead to infection and death if not treated properly,” explained Dr. Popoola, Founder of (OHA).
