SACRAMENTO, CALIF., May 1, 2012 -- The Sacramento Kings on Friday hosted its inaugural community benefit concert, “Live on Kings Court” featuring Grammy Award-winning band Blues Traveler. More than 3,000 fans attended the event, which raised $55,000 for six local children’s charities.

Known worldwide for a folk rock and soul-inspired sound responsible for catchy singles such as “But Anyway”, “Run-Around” and “Hook”, Blues Traveler entertained an audience of 3,000-plus Kings Season Ticket Holders and music fans as team legends Scot Pollard and Mitch Richmond combined with current Kings players Tyreke Evans, Isaiah Thomas, Jason Thompson and Marcus Thornton to mingle with guests and assist in fundraising efforts.

Proceeds of $30,000 from auctions held during the evening benefited “Live on Kings Court” partnering charity Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sacramento, a total representing more than half of the institution’s annual fundraising goal allotted towards the “BIGS” match program. Additional contributions in excess of $25,000 were made to The Sacramento Kings Foundation, which will distribute $5,000 each to five additional agencies, including CCHAT (Children’s Choice for Hearing and Talking), Make-A-Wish Foundation, Sacramento Reads, St. Johns Shelter and WIND Youth Services.

“Live on Kings Court” event sponsors included Jiffy Lube, Sactown Magazine, CBS Radio, VSP, Commerce Printing, McDonalds, Universal Limousine, U.S Bank, the Sacramento Bee and Fred Penny & Associates. As part of the festivities, renowned Sacramento performance artist David Garibaldi created three paintings during a VIP reception prior to the concert, raising $10,000 in auction bids.
