
SACRAMENTO, CA, Thursday, July 5, 2007 --- The Sacramento Kings today signed rookie center Spencer Hawes, the team's first round selection (10th overall) in the 2007 NBA Draft, and rookie free agent Mustafa Shakur to contracts, according to Kings' President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
At 19, Hawes entered the draft after his freshman season at the University of Washington where he earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 and All-Freshman Pac-10 honors. Hawes led the Huskies in scoring and ranked second in rebounding, averaging 14.9 points (10th in Pac-10) and 6.4 rebounds per game through 31 outings.
Shakur, a 6-3, 190-pound guard, averaged 10.1 points and 5.1 assists per game through 131 contests over his four-year career at the University of Arizona. He earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors as a senior after averaging 11.9 points per game.
