Kings and Partners Join Efforts to Celebrate NBA "Green Week"

-- Team will collaborate with corporate partners on initiatives encouraging fans to “Go-Green” and practice environmentally friendly living habits --

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Apr. 4, 2012 -- The Sacramento Kings will unite with corporate sponsors and the NBA to participate in the league’s fourth annual “Green Week,” which runs through April 11.

Created as a way for teams to be more environmentally friendly and maximize green business opportunities, the NBA and its franchises are also working together with the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to generate awareness and funding to protect the environment.

The Kings will highlight the importance of environmental responsibility by joining its partners in educating and encouraging fans to make greener choices in their daily lives. The following initiatives underscore the team’s involvement with corporate sponsors in furthering “Green Week” efforts in Sacramento:

  • Fans can join the Kings and Regional Water Authority in a commitment to use water more efficiently by taking the “Blue Thumb Pledge” at the Kings home game on April 18 against San Antonio. Each fan making the pledge will receive a blue thumb gardening glove and an opportunity to win an autographed jersey. Pledge stations will be positioned inside Power Balance Pavilion and in front of the Box Office.
  • Zoom Imaging Solutions will offer Kings fans a chance to “Close the Loop” and recycle used toner cartridges at Kings home games on April 5 versus the Clippers and April 8 against Houston. Fans are welcome to dispose of their used cartridges at designated drop off locations throughout Power Balance Pavilion.
  • SMUD will be at Power Balance Pavilion for the Kings game on April 8 versus Houston sharing tips about how to save energy and be environmentally-friendly. Sacramento Kings Dancers and Kings Breakers will hand out free LED light bulbs provided by SMUD.
  • Sierra Pacific Solar, “The Guys In The Big Red Trucks” are offering Kings fans new solar electric systems for $0 money down and a $1000 discount when they sign up for their new solar system during the month of April. Fans looking to generate green power before the hot summer months are encouraged to visit or call 800-551-3040.
  • Additionally, Kings players will sport 100 percent organic cotton shooting shirts featuring the NBA Green logo before every game during Green Week. The team will hold a silent auction on Sunday, April 8 featuring two Green Week shooting shirts signed by the Kings starting five, along with other autographed Kings items with all proceeds benefitting the NRDC.

In keeping with its commitment to utilizing environmentally sustainable business practices, the Kings will continue recycling all white office paper, cardboard, e-waste, metal refuse, paint and light bulbs used at Power Balance Pavilion, as well as operate mulching landscape machinery on all arena grounds, eliminating excessive yard waste. With these and other Earth-friendly policies, the Kings remain pledged to “Live Green.”
