KINGS TEAM UP WITH BLOODSOURCE TO SAVE LIVES

--Community Blood and Marrow Drive assists patients in need; All donors will earn free tickets to a Kings preseason game--

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Sept. 12, 2012 -- The Sacramento Kings and BloodSource have partnered once again to host the second annual Community Blood and Marrow Drive in an effort to give the gift of life.

Blood donors from throughout the region are invited to Power Balance Pavilion on Friday, September 14 between noon and 5 p.m. In appreciation of their donation, anyone giving blood will receive two free tickets to a Kings preseason contest, a commemorative Blood Drive T-shirt, 20 percent off at the Kings Team Store and a special offer from Bella Bru cafes. Participants will enjoy special appearances by mascots Slamson and Drippy the Blood Drop.

Blood donors and Marrow registrants help patients like ten-year old Jackson Ross. Jackson was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009 and received scores of blood products and medical treatments, including a marrow transplant in 2010. He is now a healthy and rambunctious child fully enjoying life with his family and friends. “Be the Match” marrow registry will be available to aid patients searching for marrow donors. Each year, approximately 10,000 individuals search the “Be the Match” database in hopes of locating a match. Learn more at www.bloodsource.org.

BloodSource aims to collect 700 units of blood every day to help patients recover from cancer and cardiac treatments, motor vehicle injuries, organ transplants, complications from childbirth and more. The inaugural Kings/BloodSource Drive in 2011 yielded nearly 100 units, a helpful total each organization is hoping to increase this year.
