Greene Visits State Fair

Smiling as he has since his introductory press conference on Friday at ARCO Arena, the Kings newest addition, rookie Donté Greene, greeted Kings fans on Saturday at the California State Fair while signing autographs, mingling with kids and chatting with Fair-goers.

"It feels great to be here at the State Fair," Greene said. "I love going to the State Fair, so to have the opportunity to come out here and be amongst your fans is definitely fun."

After more than an hour of hanging out at the Kings booth in Building D, Greene went on a stroll through the fair grounds. One of his stops included a visit to the Best Buy booth, where he learned about a video game system, due out in the next year, which will be controlled by the user's thoughts. As fans called out his name and asked for pictures, it was evident Greene appreciated the vast embrace of his arrival in Sacramento.

"I came out here to interact with the fans, and it was definitely fun," Greene said. "I met a lot of new people. You can tell Kings fans are die-hard fans out here, and I definitely love that. I look forward to having more events with them."

With a reputation of being among the most loyal fans in the NBA, Greene says Kings fans’ support can be the difference in a game -- especially for a team with promising young talent, like the Kings.

"It's huge, especially when your fans are as supportive as Kings fans are," Greene said. "It's very important to a team, especially a young team like us. They help us out during the season. At home the crowd can definitely be the difference in the game, so seeing them out here is definitely big for me."

With the Fair offering food options ranging from ice cream and pizza to nearly anything deep-fried, Greene had his sights set on trying something new, even if it took him off his usual diet.

"I have to try everything," Greene said. "I saw Catfish-on-a-stick over there, so I'm going to have to go off my diet a little bit and try some things."

Speaking of trying things, Greene is on his third team since the NBA Draft in June, but of all the teams -- Memphis, then Houston -- Greene sees the best opportunity in Sacramento.

"I'm in a better city, a better situation and I'll have more opportunity to play," Greene said.

Fortunately, the first opportunity to see number 20 and his teammates in action during the preseason is less than two months away.
