Bobby Jackson took a couple of minutes out of Tuesday's practice to answer a few questions about the Kings and the playoffs. Here's what he had to say:
Rebounding and free throw shooting seems to be the Kings’ biggest area in need of improvement entering the playoffs. How are you guys going to fix those needs?
Bobby: “Teams know our weaknesses and they know that if they crash the offensive boards then they have a great chance to win the game. I think we have to be focused and box everyone out, from one to five. We can’t let people leak out and get the fast break, everyone has to come get the ball. It’s going to be a big part of the playoffs, to see if we can handle that.”
What about free throw shooting?
Bobby: “I think it’s all about concentration and taking your time and knocking down the shot. You’ve got 10 seconds to shoot a free throw and it’s wide-open shot. I think we just have to work on them.”
How has the loss in last year’s Western Conference Finals to motivated you guys?
Bobby: “We knew we beat ourselves last year in the seventh game. But we know that we’re a much better team this year and we have to come out and handle each game, day-by-day. We’re not taking anybody for granted, we know that every team can beat us. Last year was a learning experience for us and I don’t think we’re going to make the same mistakes.”
What are you expecting from the Jazz?
Bobby: “We know that it’s going to be a grab-hold-fest. That’s they’re game. We’re going to try and run and I think they’re going to try and not run as much, and they’re definitely going to hold on to it and play the half court game as much as possible. We have to come out and play our game.”
How will the Jazz’s style affect your team?
Bobby: “We can’t get caught up in that. We have to play them the same way they play us. We have to be defensive the same way they are defensive with us. I’m a main believer in that if a guy holds you, you have to hold him back. We just need to come out and play great defense all-around as a team.”
How impressed are you with John Stockton, a guy you are going to have to guard?
Bobby: “The guy isn’t the number one assists guy and the number one steals guy in the league for nothing at the age of 40. He brings so much to their team on both sides of the floor. He’s a great athlete and we’re going to have our hands full, because he knows the game so well. He really knows how to set up his teammates.”
The Kings were unable to cool off the hot shooting Blazers in a 117-96 defeat on Friday. In his second career start, Donte' Greene notched eight points and two rebounds.
