Kings Reflect on 2007-08 Season

written by: Andrew Nicholson

The Kings closed out the 2007-08 regular season the same way they began it -- playing hard and together. Sacramento's first season under Coach Reggie Theus' direction was an example of how those two principles can lead to success even when the odds aren't in a team's favor. As every season in professional sports has, the Kings campaign had ebbs and flows, but through it all the team remained united and upset more than a handful of the League's elite. Before Theus and the players took off for the summer, Kings.com caught up with the team to get its reflections on the season that was defined by TRUST -- TEAM, RESPECT, URGENCY, SACRIFICE and TOUGHNESS.

Spencer HawesFrom a team standpoint, how will you remember your first NBA season?
"I think as a whole it’s been frustrating on a lot levels, but we made strides in a lot of other ones. I don’t think anybody would’ve said going into the season that we’d have a chance to put ourselves in position to be at or right near .500, especially with Kevin being out for so long and Mike being out for so long and all the injuries we’ve had. Looking at it from that angle, we’ve come a long way. Right now, the basketball that we’re playing is setting us up to be on a good note going into next year."

Have you played as well as you hoped to play in your rookie season?
"I don’t think so. But I think as of late, since I’ve had a little bit of more opportunity to play, I think I’ve been doing better and been able to make some strides in a lot of different areas."

In your opinion, what was the best game of the year?
"I think our game on both sides -- offense and defense -- when we beat the Lakers down in Los Angeles. I think being ahead, having them fight back, being able to sustain it in the end and the game that I had was probably our best game of the season."

What aspect of being on your own did you enjoy the most?
"I think just the freedom to kind of do pretty much whatever you want whenever you want and not being stuck on a schedule. But at the same time, it’s probably good to be on one because it can get boring sometimes."
