Kings Reflect on 2007-08 Season

written by: Andrew Nicholson
May 02, 2008

The Kings closed out the 2007-08 regular season the same way they began it -- playing hard and together. Sacramento's first season under Coach Reggie Theus' direction was an example of how those two principles can lead to success even when the odds aren't in a team's favor. As every season in professional sports has, the Kings campaign had ebbs and flows, but through it all the team remained united and upset more than a handful of the League's elite. Before Theus and the players took off for the summer, Kings.com caught up with the team to get its reflections on the season that was defined by TRUST -- TEAM, RESPECT, URGENCY, SACRIFICE and TOUGHNESS.

-Anthony Johnson-

Anthony JohnsonWhen you reflect on your short time with the Kings, what comes to mind? "I just think of being with a group of guys who, even though we weren’t going to make the playoffs, were determined to play hard night in and night out. I’m proud of these guys for the way that they continued to be professionals and play at a high level even with no playoffs. It’s something that really stands out about this year."

“I’m proud to be a part of it because it’s easy for guys who go in and out of the lineup to play for individual reasons, but these guys hung in there together and continued to play team ball and continue to play at a high level.”

How would you characterize your play since arriving in Sacramento?
"I think I started off slowly, but that’s just due to no practice time. I maybe participated in a practice like three times. It’s hard as a point guard to really get to know my teammates and learn the system through practice. My play was up and down. I’m pleased that I had a positive influence in this locker room.”

Which one of your new teammates impressed you most?
“I think I learned a little about everybody. Sacramento is a team that comes on TV late at night on the east coast, so you don’t get to watch or hear about them much."

"Individually, I’d have to say K-Mart. He gets to the foul line a great deal and he’s a very efficient player shooting at a high percentage. And he scores the ball. There’s a reason he averages 24 points a game. That was something I was surprised about and curious to see how he does it. Even with his body type, he’s able to take a pounding and keep going. I was impressed with that and John Salmons, Cisco, Mikki Moore. It’s just a solid team with a solid group of guys. I don’t see the team being far away from the playoff race next year.”
