Claiming to be the luckiest Kings Season Ticket Holder is not an easy proclamation to make.
On Thursday, more than 60 Kings Season Ticket Holders showed up at ARCO Arena to shoot a 60-second video audition to try and persuade viewers on Kings.com why they will bring the luck the Kings need to garner one of the top three picks in the 2008 NBA Draft.
Imagine a casting call for American Idol and you have a pretty good idea of just how entertaining, heartfelt and/or touching the event was as Kings Season Ticket Holders displayed impressive imagination to demonstrate their luck.
Before their auditions, the STHs had a chance to share stories, rehearse their speeches (or songs, raps or rhymes... or whatever else it was they were about to show off), while enjoying food and beverages in the VIP room next to the Kings visitors’ locker room.
With three "casting room" sets complete with lights, camera and computer digitizing, the STHs entered the rooms in various states of nervousness and eagerness to state their claim.
From Kings jerseys, leather jackets, purple shirts, shoes and socks to purple wigs, beads and pom-poms, fans didn't leave any Kings paraphernalia at home. Then, of course, there were the stories of luck. Some were frightening, like crashing on the way to a game... more than once. Some were touching, like far surpassing your expected lifespan due to disease. Some were hysterical, like a rap group that not only dressed up, but cross-dressed. Some learned from Super Bowl commercial success that babies are always popular, so they brought their adorable grandchildren. Others brought autographs, stories of birthday parties with players and, as any good casting call would have, there was the token lucky extreme-life-size bunny rabbit.
With a great imagination, you may not have to see the 24 videos that will advance to the online bracket on Kings.com to be voted on by Kings fans. But for those who don't have a strong ability to conjure up their fellow Kings fans' wildly amusing 60-second videos, be sure to check out and vote for the videos beginning May 1.
Kings vice president of business communications Mitch Germann will join the lucky Season Ticket Holder in Secaucus, N.J., on May 20, and can already tell whoever wins will surely bring a whole new dynamic to the lottery.
”All the Season Ticket Holders that came to audition today should be commended for their creativity, their passion and their compelling stories,” Germann said. “The auditions today and this contest in general truly reflect the unparalleled connection between the Kings franchise and its fans.”
Whether they bring the luck necessary to win the Kings a top three pick or not, this years Lottery is going to be an unforgettable experience for one lucky Kings Season Ticket Holder.
