GEOFF: Thanks for coming out everybody. It’s always an exciting day when you get to introduce three new players to your team, especially with the ability and background we have here today. It’s great to have them here at the same time and let everybody here get their own sense of who they are as people and ask them about their game.

I can review briefly some of the things I said on the day of the draft. Jason was our first pick at No. 12. He’s a very versatile player with a high-skill level. I think he’s a 4-man (power forward) with some 3 (small-forward) skills. He’s improved every year. I think you’re really going to enjoy him. Sean had an unbelievable career at Virginia. He’s a true point. He’s a terrific on-the-ball defender. I think he’ll bring a lot. Patrick Ewing Jr. – 6th man of the year at Georgetown. He defended just about every position on the court. I might add that all three are college graduates. They have their degrees and I think you’re going to enjoy talking to them as well. With that we’ll open it up for questions.

JASON: I’m real excited. I had two workouts here. It’s been a long journey with the workout process. I had about 16 or 17. It’s great to be a King right now. The workout journey just ended but my other journey is just beginning and I’m just real excited and ready to get to work.

On where he was during the draft and his reaction when David Stern called his name:
It was a great feeling. I ended up staying at home; I didn’t get the invite to go to New York. But once I found out that I wasn’t going to New York, I had most of the people that if I did get invited to New York came to my house. Once I heard my name called, I shed a few tears and was really excited. I enjoyed it with my family. We had some fun and celebrated.

On rebounding:
That was one of the most important things I tried to do this year. I was head-to-head with Beasley in rebounding. And obviously I wanted to be the No. 1 rebounder in the country, but …. I had a couple games I had 20 rebounds. I want to come in with the Kings and bring a lot of energy. It (rebounding) can change the game. You get a couple of offensive rebounds and you have a 90 percent chance of second chance points. If you get defensive rebounds and run-and-gun with stops, then you get out in transition and have a better flow of the game. If I can make a change in that then it will obviously help the team.

What’s it mean to come out of Rider and be drafted?
It means a lot. I was a late bloomer coming out of high school. To come out of Rider after four years with a degree means a whole lot. It means a lot to me, the people around me, my parents, my family. But I just want to be like a role model to high school players. It doesn’t matter the name of the school you go to, if you have the talent, the heart, the hard work you put in, it shouldn’t mater what school you go to. You should have a chance to reach your dream.

Process of evaluating Jason:
GEOFF: Well, one of the things about scouting is that you don’t want to go off one look. Our other scouts saw Jason numerous times. We spent a lot of time watching the games against Kansas State and North Carolina State, and he played very well against what most people consider higher-level programs. Of course, the workouts and just visiting with him, talking to him. Then you do an evaluation of his overall game and how it’s going to translate. I don’t profess to say I know everything, but one thing I have learned over the years is that as far as talent is concerned, you never know where you’re going to find it. So that’s how we got there.

Team’s need of rebounding:
REGGIE: I see him as someone that has the ability to play inside and out. And that’s important. He’s shown the ability to rebound. He has a nose for the ball and he rebounds outside of his area so that was important to us. With these three guys we got more athletic and versatile. With Jason, his ability to play inside, and one of the things I like most is that once he gets it off the rebound, he’s capable of taking it up the court himself and making a play. I think that helps you with your tempo in a game.

On advantages playing four years in prominent programs:
PATRICK: We have the experience playing for four years at our schools and playing against some tough competition. I feel that it is an experience that a lot of (NBA) players don’t have.

SEAN: A lot of people look for potential. We feel that we have the work ethic and that the sky is the limit. So even though we were in school for four years, we feel as though we gained experience.

Expectations of Sean and Patrick:
GEOFF: Sean is a true point guard who averaged over six assists per game last year at Virginia. He is a terrific on-the-ball defender and has the ability to orchestrate things out there on the court and has the ability to score the ball as well. We are really looking forward to working with all three of them. I think all three of them are coming into work to improve and we have the same commitment as well.

With Patrick, to be able to ask him to come off the bench (in college) and he said ‘whatever you would like me to do coach’ and he ended up being sixth man of the year on a very fine team. That kind of understanding and to some degree self-sacrifice really adds a lot if that is what your team needs. It also tells you a lot about his attitude. In college he could guard almost every position. If he will be able to do that here, I do not know, but there definitely the potential to be a multi-dimensional player and defender.

REGGIE: One of the things I noticed during the workouts about Patrick was the conversation that went on with each other. Patrick was basically telling everybody what we needed to do and making sure everybody knew. All three of these guys are pushing for the other players to do well. That shows the maturity of what four years of going to school and the camaraderie that these guys have on the floor to step out there to make it happen. I thought that was big.

Talking to his father:
PATRICK: I talk to my father everyday. He called me before they announced it on TV and congratulated me. He said it was like him getting drafted all over again. I thought that was very touching.

Having all three players play a number of years in college:
GEOFF: Well I think that it is an added benefit. You never know for sure where you are going to be, unless you are No. 1. It is a real credit to them that they do. It’s a thing in college these days, just not to go to class if you are a good athlete, but they have obviously made a commitment to be a good athlete and a good student. I think that they should be congratulated for that.

On his versatility and ball handling:
JASON: I was a shooting guard coming into high school at 5’11 and was 6’3” by sophomore year. I then had to make a transition, going from 6’3” to 6’6” and from a shooting guard to a starting center. Then I grew to 6’8” my senior year, so those four years were learning experiences. I had to develop a certain part of my game to try to put it all together. It helped me in college. I tried to put it all together to establish my post game.

On how beng a late bloomer has helped his game:

SEAN: It has helped a lot. I tried to show in the workouts that I could do a little bit of everything. In defense, trying to get the rebounds, blocking shots and getting my hands on the ball. I try to bring a lot of energy and do whatever it takes.

On fitting in with the Sacramento Kings after putting up great numbers in the ACC:
SEAN: Coming in as a young player you have to listen and learn from the other guys on the team. All I can do is come in, bring my energy and bring what I already know. Somehow I have to get myself into the lineup and move up from there. But coming in as a rookie, you have to come in and just listen, be ready and come in everyday and work hard.
