Be Here LIVE on Wednesday, January 30 at 7 p.m. as the Kings “Celebrate Sacramento” with the Charlotte Bobcats. See and hear from Sacramento celebrities.
Sacramento is a home away from home for Kings players during the NBA season. In honor of Celebrating Sacramento Night, Kings.com caught up with a couple of the guys to find out what they like about their basketball home. From the people to the food, Sacramento is a special place for a variety of reasons.
What is your favorite thing about Sacramento?
HEAD COACH REGGIE THEUS - My favorite thing is the growth of the city. From the time that I was a player, to now, it’s grown tremendously. They’ve got real restaurants now (laughs). I knew the city when it was just in the embryo stages, just getting out of the farmland. All the (Natomas) area wasn’t built up; there was no Roseville, no Granite Bay. Coming back here and seeing all the growth has been a real joy for me. It went through a boom and people have to remember that a big part of that boom was because of this basketball team.
KEVIN MARTIN - It’s a great place to play basketball because of the fans. They come to support us every night, no matter how the Kings are playing. Their support is one of the reasons why I chose to stay here. The city in general is a homey community. I compare it to where I come from. It just feels like home with a lot more people.
DAHNTAY JONES - Although I haven’t been in Sacramento very long, I’d have to say the fans are my favorite thing. The fans have been so great. They’re very warm and have accepted me, so it makes me feel like I’m at home. I feel I’m appreciated when I come to play.
MIKKI MOORE - It’s the people here. Everybody’s really friendly. I haven’t really been out too much, but my favorite place to eat is Riverside Clubhouse.
JOHN SALMONS - I think my favorite thing is how nice the people here are. It’s a laid back place. I’m a homebody, so when my wife and I go out, it’s just to the movies.
JUSTIN WILLIAMS - My favorite thing about Sacramento is PF Chang’s. I usually get shrimp fried rice with chicken and no vegetables. They should change that to my order because I eat that three times a week. When I come in they know exactly what I want. They don’t even need to ask any more.
