Kings.com caught up with free agent signee Bobby Brown recently to discuss his excitement about joining the Kings, his playing experience in Germany, NBA Summer League and much more.
What does your first regular season NBA contract mean to you?
"It means everything. It's been my lifelong dream to play in the NBA and be a part of an organization like Sacramento, or any organization in the NBA. It's been a blessing, and I'm going take it at full-strength and play my hardest."
During NBA Summer League in Las Vegas you averaged 15 points, six assists and three rebounds with New Orleans, how do you feel like you played?
"I felt I played solid. I mean, in the first game I got used to a lot of the players on the team and every game I got better in every aspect of the game, especially with (the team) winning a lot too, until the last game we lost, but I thought I played pretty good."
What aspect of your game have you developed most over the past year?
"I got stronger in my core and with my body. When I go to the hole I can accept contact and finish at the rim and also get in the lane and find guys. My perimeter game was falling a lot, so I worked on that a lot when I was over in Germany. So I feel (getting stronger) helped me a lot (in Summer League) and also passing the ball in the right spots."
After having an outstanding collegiate career, you went undrafted in 2007. How did that affect you?
"It was tough not being drafted. I mean, going up against a lot of those guys that were drafted and seeing their names get called. At the same time, everything happens for a reason. I had to go overseas and play for one year and I felt like it helped me out a lot. It added a lot of fuel to my fire. I just play with a chip on my shoulder now, like not taking anything for granted. I want to play this game until I can't play anymore. So it affected me a lot, but I got past it and moved on."
How would you characterize your experience playing in Germany and winning the Club Championship with Alba Berlin?
"It was fun and it was different, but it was a great experience for me to travel the world and see places I'd never seen. I had a great coach there that helped me a lot. And I had great teammates who also helped me out a lot because there were a lot of veterans and I was like the youngest person, so it was a fun experience. I traveled the world, we won a lot of games, won the championship, I got to play in the All-Star game, I won Rookie of the Year -- so it was a blessing."
Were there any other Americans or former NBA players on Alba Berlin?
"Dijon Thompson, he went to UCLA and was drafted by Phoenix, but that was about it. There were other guys but they were smaller names, but they were also good. We had a National Team player on our team too. His name is Patrick Femerling. He's playing on the German National Team right now."
Was daily life in Germany a big adjustment for you?
"When I first got there it was tough because we started training camp in the middle of nowhere, like this resort in Slovenia. I didn't know what was going on. I just knew I got dropped off in a place where I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know the money. I went to exchange my money and gave them $100 and I got back like 40 Euros, and I was like what is this! My teammates were like, 'Yeah, that's how the money is, the Euro's stronger.' But life in Germany was nice because Berlin is a big city and a lot of people spoke English. They had some nice restaurants, but a lot of the food was not so good, but it was pretty fun."
What was your favorite food in Germany?
"The Donner Kabob, that's pretty good."
