Hawes Rehab Q & A
with Andrew Nicholson

Before the team headed to the airport en route to Los Angeles to face the Clippers Wednesday night, Kings.com caught up with rookie Spencer Hawes. Spencer fills us in on his knee rehab, Coach Reggie Theus' approach, college football and how he is getting acclimated to living in Sacramento.

Spencer Hawes
How your knee rehab going?
"It feels good -- better and better every day. We're doing more stuff and going for a longer time every day, so it's good to make that progression."

What kind of stuff have you been doing?
"I'm still doing a lot with the water treadmill and elliptical machine. I'm not running yet, but hopefully I'll get the OK from Doc to start doing that soon."

Have you seen Greg Oden's video blog of his water rehab workout?
"No, I have not."

It doesn't look very exciting.
"It's not. It's just a treadmill with water surrounding you."

How does it feel to be back amongst your teammates?
"It's good. I was getting so bored sitting on my couch, icing my knee and watching TV all day! It's nice to be back here with the guys and doing (recovery work)."

How do you like what you've seen from your teammate's play?
"Guys are really getting after it on defense and the offense is coming together. It looks like everything is getting more fluid out there."

Coach Reggie Theus appears to be holding everyone accountable. How do you guys perceive his approach?
"As a player that's what you want. You know when you screw up and when (Coach) says something, me personally, I know that it is part of the job. You just have to realize not to take it personally."

Are players more receptive to him because he is going to always be straight forward, no matter what the issue is?
"(As a player) you like a straight shooter and you like for someone to tell it how it is, so I think that's the best way to do it."

Did you happen to see the outcome of your Washington Huskies vs. Oregon Ducks football game on Saturday? (Spencer played his only college year of hoops at the University of Washington and is an avid college football fan. Having attended UW, the Huskies are his favorite team. They lost on Saturday 55-34)
"I did not. I heard it was tied at 31 and then the Ducks finished with 55, so it's better that I didn't."

We hear Kevin Martin is renting you his house, how is it working out?
"It's nice. He's a good landlord."

Are you living in Sacramento by yourself?
"Yeah, (I'm here alone). I don't have cable yet, so I have a lot of South Park DVDs that I've been running through."
