Kings Announce 2001-2002 Royal Court Dancers
SACRAMENTO, July 23, 2001 -- After two days of competitive auditions, the Sacramento Kings today announced the 2001-2002 Royal Court Dance team. The top dance performers were selected from a record group of 150 competitors. Fifteen are from the Sacramento region and one dancer comes to us all the way from Topeka, KS.
"This was the most competitive audition in the 14-year history of the King's dance team," said Kings Director of Event Presentation Wendy Fresques. "This year's record turnout is representative of the excitement that is building for the 2001-2002 Kings season."
There are 11 veterans returning to the team this season and five new faces that will debut on the Kings dance team for the 2001-2002 NBA season.
"We are so excited about the squad we have assembled," said April Cabrera, co- director of the Royal Court Dance Team. "We have a great team of people with new, positive energy. Now it's time to get ready for what we hope will be an amazing Kings season!"
The auditions began Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at ARCO Arena with each of the 150 competitors learning a partial dance routine. Following a series of three-person performances, the panel of judges narrowed the field to 40 for Wednesdayb
