“It is noble to teach oneself, but still nobler to teach others—and less trouble.”

Together with Health Net, the Sacramento Kings donated a Reading Corner at the La Familia Counseling Center last week. Brightly painted walls, newly installed computers and books fresh out of the box will enhance the learning experience for the students using the center in South Sacramento.
Kings players Francisco Garcia and Lorenzen Wright, along with volunteers from Health Net and Maloof Sports & Entertainment transformed the facility’s old conference room into a computer lab/reading room for the children and families who benefit from the center’s services.
“I really enjoy spending time with the kids,” said Wright. “One of the little girls came up to me earlier and said that us being here ‘made’ her birthday. So hearing that really made it worthwhile for me.”
La Familia Counseling Center is dedicated to improving quality of life for at-risk youth and families of diverse backgrounds by offering multi-cultural counseling, support outreach services and programs to help families overcome adversity, become empowered and succeed in their lives.
