Sacramento Kings Foundation

The Sacramento Kings Foundation a 501 (c)(3) organization is dedicated to making a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of people in-need and at-risk in the Sacramento region.

Since 1985, the Sacramento Kings have been an important part of our community. Our civic and charitable involvement over the past 20 years has resulted in several million dollars of in-cash and in-kind donations to more than 200 community organizations. Since its inception, the Foundation has established more than a dozen programs designed to support our area nonprofits and the people in the community they serve.

This year we've tied all of our efforts under our Project Assist initiative. Project Assist will help raise over $1 million for community nonprofits – rallying around the key areas of charitable giving, volunteerism, issue awareness and supporting our region's youth.

KINGS PROJECT ASSIST INITIATIVES

Get Fit with the Kings

The Sacramento Kings, The California Endowment, the Sacramento City Unified School District and UC Davis Health System have partnered to create the "Get Fit with the Kings" program. Its focus is to teach Sacramento-area youth the importance of creating and living a healthy lifestyle and to encourage youth to exercise for at least 30 minutes per day. As part of the "Get Fit with the Kings" program, Kings players, staff, Sacramento Kings Dancers and Kings Breakers host monthly fitness timeouts, health clinics and rallies at local schools and after school programs.

Kings for the Community

Introduced prior to the 2007-08 season, the "Kings for the Community" program was developed by Kings players and personnel as a way to give back to the community. Throughout the 2011-12 season, special groups and children from underserved communities attended Kings home games courtesy of Kings players. Thousands of deserving local children and community members have benefited from the program.

Community Assist Series Initiative

The Sacramento Kings have developed a new program that caters to non-profit organizations and their fundraising efforts. The Kings Community Assist Series offers a way for non-profits to partner with the Kings to create awareness about an event or cause and fundraise in a unique and creative way.

Jr. Kings

The Sacramento Kings recognize the youth of our community is the future of the NBA. With that in mind, we developed the Jr. Kings program. The Jr. Kings program provides an opportunity for teams and groups of kids (18 and under) to attend a Sacramento Kings game and receive a number of other exciting benefits! The Jr. Kings program is a great way for youngsters in the Sacramento region to unite and interact with the Kings.

Kings Reading and Learning Centers

The Kings work hands-on in the community by refurbishing and building Kings Reading and Learning Centers. Locations may include, but are not limited to, school and public libraries, computer rooms and non-profit community centers. Sacramento Kings volunteer Team Members work on rooms or buildings in need of upgrades for students to read and study.

Season of Giving

Each holiday season, the Sacramento Kings spread holiday cheer throughout the Sacramento community through its "Season of Giving" initiative. Kings players, Sacramento Kings Dancers, Slamson and volunteer Team Members participate in charitable giving and holiday fun benefiting children and families throughout the region. Activities include a Thanksgiving dinner celebration, children's hospital visits, shopping sprees, toy and bike donations and holiday food distributions.

Teacher Appreciation Program

The Sacramento Kings partner with the Sacramento County Office of Education to help recognize the top teachers in the Sacramento County. The teachers identified as "Sacramento County Teachers of the Year" by SCOE are invited to a designated "Teacher Appreciation Night" Kings game where they are recognized on-court for their efforts in the classroom.

Black History Month

The Sacramento Kings celebrate the rich history of African-American culture during Black History Month. With assistance from key community organizations, this celebration is a chance to recognize community leaders and "unsung heroes" in the African-American community as "Black History Month All-Stars." The "All-Stars" are presented with an award during an on-court presentation at a Kings home game.

Cesar Chavez Day of Volunteerism

In 2004, the Sacramento Kings became the first private, non-agricultural organization to recognize California's new Cesar Chavez Day as a holiday. To truly honor Cesar Chavez' lifelong contributions to humanity and his commitment to community service, the Kings decided to make the holiday a 'day on' instead of a day off for Team Members. Cesar Chavez' belief that people have an obligation to contribute to their community mirrors the organization's commitment to community service.

Generations of Basketball

Basketball legends from multiple generations are celebrated on one stage. The annual event chronicles the rich history of basketball while highlighting current teams and players impacting the game today. This unique evening also affords Kings corporate partners an opportunity to support the Sacramento Kings Foundation's grant program. The evening culminates with a presentation of the Kings annual Oscar Robertson Award, recognizing the Kings player who best exemplifies excellence on the court and in the community.

LIVE On Kings Court

A community benefit concert headlining a nationally-recognized musical artist designed to support regional charitable organizations. This unique event includes participation by Kings corporate partners, Kings players and team personalities, Season Ticket Holders and the general public. The evening features a VIP reception, open bar, meet and greet opportunity with Kings players and dinner in the arena.

Play Smart, Be Smart

The Sacramento Kings Foundation's first Cause Marketing program tied 5% of all new ticket sales from July 1, 2012 to the team's first 2012-13 home game to provide a grant program for schools within the region that have needs in areas of math, science, art or fitness. To date, more than $115,000 has been generated from the campaign. The 2012 grant cycle has now closed. Please stay tuned for the announcement of recipients!
