Vlade Discusses Front Office Additions

With the offseason in full swing, the Sacramento Kings have brought on two new additions to bolster the team’s front office.

Luke Bornn and Scott Perry were both recently hired by the Kings, with Bornn serving as the Vice President of Strategy and Analytics and Perry as the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations.

Bornn arrives in Sacramento after working as Head of Analytics for A.S. Roma of the Italian Serie A Football League. In addition to this position, Sacramento's new VP of Strategy and Analytics was also a visiting scholar and professor at Harvard University in the Department of Statistics.

His background on the numbers side of basketball gives the Kings further analytical support as they are approaching a crucial time for player evaluation in the NBA Draft and free agency looming in the coming months.

“Basketball is not science. You have talent, you develop your players, you play hard,” Divac said to the Sacramento Bee. “But you want to get players who complement each other, and analytics helps in that regard. Luke is able to identify what’s important and explain things in language we can understand.”

As for Perry, the longtime executive boasts a wealth of NBA front office experience, serving in a variety of roles for a number of franchises including the Seattle Supersonics, Detroit Pistons, and Orlando Magic. During his time in Detroit, Perry contributed to building a team that would be perennial playoff contenders and 2004 NBA Champions.

Vlade went on to discuss the larger picture of how valuable these new additions could prove to be.

“We don’t just want to build a team to get the eighth seed. We want to be more than that,” Divac said. “We want to be the Kings that we were before – contenders for a title. We are working for that.”
