Knicks Squeak Past Kings

In a game that came down to the final possession, critical last second baskets by the Knicks at the end of quarters one through three proved to be the difference.

Despite Sacramento shooting 57 percent in the opening frame, Carmelo Anthony’s 15 first quarter points kept New York close. The Knicks trailed by just two after the opening 12 minutes, with Anthony’s 6-of-8 shooting setting precedent for what would be a game-high effort.

Sactown traded leads with the Knicks throughout the first half, with New York gaining a 54-53 advantage headed into the break. DeMarcus Cousins’ 12 points and four assists led the team going into the halftime break.

The back-and-forth affair continued into the final frame, where five consecutive points by Darren Collison netted the team a one-point lead with just over two minutes remaining. With the Kings holding a 98-97 lead, Joakim Noah’s free throws proved to be true, securing a lead that New York held until the final buzzer.

With two seconds remaining and a 103-100 lead, Anthony missed back-to-back free throws, allowing the home team to launch one final shot with no timeouts. Cousins’ heave was on track, but just missed, bouncing off the front of the rim as the horn sounded.

Sactown heads to Utah to close out the back-to-back set tomorrow night.
