Kings Unable To Cool Rockets

A three-point barrage by the Houston Rockets opened the contest, setting the tone for what would be a record breaking evening for the visiting team.

Trevor Ariza hit on 4-of-6 attempts from deep to net Houston a 38-19 lead in the first 12 minutes. As a whole, the Rockets hit on 8-of-17 long-range attempts in the opening quarter and shot 52 percent from the field. Meanwhile, the Kings struggled, making only 35 percent of their shots, led by DeMarcus Cousins’ nine points.

By the ensuing frame, the deficit ballooned to as many as 29 before the entrances of Garrett Temple and Omri Casspi. The duo sparked the team in a late-quarter run, forcing eight second-quarter turnovers and cutting the Rockets advantage to 18 by halftime.

While Sactown fought back valiantly in the final half, three-pointers continued to allow Houston to push its advantage. Boogie did, however, manage to post a 16-point fourth quarter. His late-game heroics included three straight three-pointers and three blocks, which helped cut the lead to single digits for the first time since the first quarter. However, Houston quickly responded with a three of their own, negating Boogie’s back-to-back-to-back treys and sealing them the victory.

  • DMC’s five threes were a career-high. He ended the night with five blocks as well.
  • Omri Casspi finished with seven points, four rebounds and five assists.
  • Kosta Koufos shot 5-of-5 from the floor.
