Kings Fall in Preseason Finale

A highlight-filled first quarter netted the Sacramento Kings an early lead, with DeMarcus Cousins scoring 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting. On 12 made field goals in the first frame, Sactown tallied 10 assists, led by Ben McLemore’s three followed by two each from Cousins and Rudy Gay.

Turning over the ball just twice in the opening 12 minutes, Sactown accumulated 11 turnovers in the second quarter alone, allowing Los Angeles to take a double-digit lead into the half. Finishing the frame with just 13 points on 24-percent shooting.

Following a back-and-forth third quarter in which the Kings were outscored 23-22, the team trailed by 14 heading into the final frame.

Despite being behind by 16 with three-minutes remaining, Sacramento’s defensive intensity and three-point shooting closed the gap, pulling within three in the final seconds. Ultimately, the comeback effort, led by a lineup of McLemore, Garrett Temple, Omri Casspi, Anthony Tolliver and Willie Cauley-Stein fell short. Los Angeles was held to just a 13-point, 25-percent shooting quarter while Sactown found its touch from beyond the arc, hitting three of the squad’s five threes in the final frame.

The team will return to the court to open the regular season on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m. versus the Suns in Phoenix. Wednesday’s contest will be broadcast on CSN California with coverage also available via Sports 1140 KHTK radio and the Kings + Golden 1 Center app.
