Cousins Shines but Kings Fall in OT

Trailing by eight points with under five minutes remaining in regulation, DeMarcus Cousins took over. He scored 10 of the team’s final 12 points to tie the game and force an extra period of basketball.

Cousins’ impressive 36-point, 20-rebound and four-assist performance kept Sacramento within striking distance. However, sluggish play was ultimately too much to overcome for the Kings on the end of a back-to-back as they fell 101-95 to the Wizards on Monday.

Sactown hit just 1-of-8 three-point attempts in the opening 24 minutes while allowing 17 points off nine turnovers. Additionally, the team missed eight free throw opportunities and were outrebounded by six at the break. Despite all this, Sacramento still led 53-50 through two quarters.

Unfortunately, their struggles from the field continued in the second half. The squad converted on just 11 percent of their threes, going 1-of-9. For the game, they finished just 3-of-21 from long range and 16-of-26 from the charity stripe.

By the end of the night, both teams shot 41 percent. However, Washington outscored the Kings by 21 points from beyond the arc. Bradley Beal led the charge for the Wizards with 31 points, including a career-high seven treys.

NOTES
