Kings Unable to Complete Comeback

An 18-2 run to end the first frame allowed the shorthanded Pelicans to pull ahead quickly behind Ryan Anderson’s 18 first quarter points. The Kings were forced to play catch-up for the remainder of the first half, closing the gap to 10 by the halftime break. By the end of two, New Orleans was shooting 53 percent and out-rebounding Sacramento 23-16.

While Sactown reduced the deficit to single digits with runs at the end of both the third and fourth quarters, the opposition’s first quarter lead proved to be insurmountable for the purple and black.

Despite being without three starters, a career-high-tying 36-point night from Ryan Anderson gave the Pel’s enough of an offensive spark to hold their visitors at bay. By game’s end, DeMarcus Cousins was able to score a team-high-tying 26 points, but Sactown was unable to find a defensive groove in the loss.

  • Ben McLemore scored a season-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting.
  • Boogie recorded his 27th double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Earlier in the day, Cousins was selected to his second All-Star team in as many years.
  • Rajon Rondo’s 14th consecutive game with 10 or more assists has tied Nate Archibald for most in Kings history.
  • No. 9’s 17-point, 15-assist performance was his 24th double-double of the season, 13th game with 15 or more assists and 32nd game with at least 10.

The Kings will finish their road-trip on Saturday evening against the Memphis Grizzlies. Fans wishing to view the game can tune in via CSN California or KHTK SPORTS 1140 AM.
