Kings Blow Out Mavs in Road Trip Finale

Sacramento closed out its five-game, 11-day road trip with an all-around effort as 10 different players scored in the win over Dallas.

Led by former Maverick Darren Collison’s eight points, a strong defensive showing in the game’s opening quarter netted the team an early advantage. The team forced five Dallas turnovers in the early going, extending the lead to as many as 13 in the ensuing quarter.

By the halftime break, Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins combined for 24 of the squad’s 56 points. An 8-of-17 three-point shooting performance by Dallas kept the game close though, closing the gap from 13 to just four at the break.

Sacramento responded with a 25-6 run to start the third quarter. They pulled away to lead by as many as 23 and held Dallas to just a dozen points in the frame. Sactown’s stifling defense forced 17 turnovers through 36 minutes, resulting in 24 Kings points. The 12 third quarter points allowed by the team matched a season low for opponent points in a frame.

Dallas’ final comeback attempt was stymied by Sactown. The Mavs pulled to within 14 before a final fourth quarter run by Sacramento put the game out of reach. The trio of Cousins, Gay and Collison combined for 62 points, shooting a combined 23-of-40 from the field.
