DMC Becomes Sacramento-era Leader in 40-plus Point Games

DeMarcus Cousins is continuing to make his mark on Sacramento Kings history.

Last night, he was at it again by recording a game-high 42 points in Chicago. That performance made him the franchise’s All-Time leader with 40 or more points scored in a single outing. With seven such games under his belt, he surpassed Mitch Richmond and Kevin Martin, who both had six contests of 40 or more points during their tenures as Kings.

Last night’s game was the second biggest scoring outburst this season by Cousins. Earlier this year, the 26-year-old superstar dropped 55 in a thrilling victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

The milestone is one of a handful of major achievements Cousins accomplished last week. On Wednesday night, the big man surpassed Vlade Divac and Lionel Simmons on the list of most games played in a Sacramento uniform. With 456 games and counting as a member of the Kings, he is now the seventh longest tenured player in Sacramento history. The following game, Cousins surpassed Peja Stojakovic on the Kings All-Time scoring list, making him the second-leading scorer in franchise history in the Sacramento era.

Next up on the list of career feats for Cousins is the 10,000 point threshold. With less than 500 points to go, he is expected to reach that club in the near future. Passing that milestone would make Cousins second only to Richmond to tally at least 10 K in a Sacramento uniform.
