Closer Look: Kings Top Matchups
Get a look ahead at some of the most anticipated games of the season – including the Home Opener, and contests against the Lakers and Heat – which go on sale today at 10 a.m. Plus, check out upcoming theme nights and more!
For just the second time in the last 10 years, the Kings will begin the regular season in Sacramento, where the team holds a 22-6 record in Home Openers since 1985 – including a current eight-game winning streak.
The Kings will don their purple jerseys while taking on the Nuggets on Oct. 30 at Sleep Train Arena in honor of the first-ever "Purple-Out" Home Opener, which will mark the much-anticipated debuts of Ben McLemore and Ray McCallum. All fans in attendance for the contest will score a purple Kings T-shirt, season pin and glowsticks, plus enjoy additional exciting surprises.
With sellouts in 26 of 28 Sacramento-opening games, purple and black diehards will be in for an electrifying night as the Kings usher in a new era of basketball.

Kings vs. Clippers

In the 2012-13 regular season finale, DeMarcus Cousins tallied 36 points, a career-high 22 rebounds and three blocks in a masterful performance against Clippers big men DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. Impressively, two of No. 15's four career games with 20 or more boards have come against the division foe.
Marcus Thornton – who's scored 20-plus points in three of the last four meetings against the Clippers – tallied 25 points on 6 of 10 from behind the arc to help Sacramento beat L.A. on March 19.

Nov. 1 – All fans in attendance will receive a glowstick, as the Kings sport their alternative black jerseys and host a "Blackout" in the first regular-season matchup against the Clippers.

Nine of the last 12 meetings between the Northern California rivals have been decided by fewer than five points or headed into overtime, while the Kings won last year's season series (3-1) for the first time since 2002-03.
On March 14, 2011, Thornton poured in a career-high 42 points on 13 of 20 from the field at Oracle Arena, while in the most recent matchup on March 27, 2013, Isaiah Thomas outshined Stephen Curry by connecting on a career-best seven triples en route to 31 points – 17 coming in the third quarter – in a thrilling Kings road victory.

Dec. 1 – A Sunday "Purple Reign" matinee will take place as Sacramento welcomes Golden State to town, and the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a fan clapper.

Perennial All-Stars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Deron Williams and the Nets will make their lone regular-season visit to Sacramento – where the Kings have won 19 of 28 meetings since 1985. Cousins tallied 28.5 points on 59 percent from the floor to go along with 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while battling big man Brook Lopez in a pair of 2012-13 outings.
Kings vs. Pistons
Fri. Nov. 15 - Detroit - 7:30 p.m.
Tue. March 11 @ Detroit - 4:30 p.m.
Cousins and the Kings will aim to make an early-season statement in the team's first nationally-televised game of the year on ESPN on Nov. 15. The Kentucky product feasted on Detroit's frontline of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond in 2012-13, tallying 21.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per outing as Sacramento split the season series.
Kings defensive ace Luc Mbah a Moute will look to shut down Pistons offseason acquisition Josh Smith, while Greivis Vasquez and Thomas will face a revamped Motor City backcourt including Brandon Jennings and Chauncey Billups.

With raucous "Beat L.A." chants ringing throughout Sleep Train Arena, Sacramento has come out on top against its longstanding rival in three of the last four home meetings. Cousins has recorded a double-double in four of the last five overall matchups, tallying 23 points and 19 rebounds in a Sacramento victory on April 26, 2012.
In only his second start as a Kings player, Patrick Patterson poured in 22 points on 9 of 12 from the field, while Thomas notched a team-high 26 points and six assists in L.A. on March 17.

Providing an incredible spark off the bench, Thomas ignited a furious Sacramento comeback in Oklahoma City on Dec. 14, 2012, scoring 23 points in the fourth quarter – two shy of Mitch Richmond's franchise record for points in a period – and finished the contest with 26 points in only 16 minutes of action.
The Kings previously stunned Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the Thunder in a nationally-televised game on Feb. 9, 2012, mounting a 106-101 comeback victory in front of a sell-out crowd at Sleep Train Arena led by Cousins' 19 points and nine rebounds and Thornton's 10-fourth quarter points.

In another spectacular late-game performance, Thomas scored 17 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, as Sacramento overcame a 30-point outing from All-Star James Harden in a 117-111 win on Feb. 10.
Over his last four matchups against newly-acquired Rockets center Dwight Howard, Cousins has averaged 17.8 points and 9.0 rebounds while twice holding his counterpart to single-digit scoring and rebounding.
Kings vs. Heat

In one of the most exhilarating tilts of the 2012-13 campaign, Sacramento nearly halted Miami's then-11-game winning steak, taking LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the reining NBA champions to double-overtime behind Thornton's season-high 36 points and career-high eight triples on Feb. 26. The Kings scored the final eight points in regulation on two three-pointers by No. 23 and a tip-in by Cousins, who finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds.
In the teams' most recent meeting at Sleep Train Arena on Jan. 12, Thomas scored 24 of his career-high 34 points in the second half while drilling six triples.

In a nationally-televised NBA TV game on Dec. 23, Vasquez will face his former team for the first time, while ex-Kings guard Tyreke Evans will make his initial trip to Sacramento as a visitor after averaging 17.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game over four seasons.
Veteran John Salmons connected on a blistering 69.2 percent from behind the arc over the course of three meetings with New Orleans last season, leading the Kings with 22 points in a home victory on April 10.
Kings vs. Spurs

The Kings took the Western Conference Champions to the wire on Feb. 19, as Thornton nailed back-to-back triples and converted a fastbreak layup to bring Sacramento within three with under a minute left on the clock. No. 23 scored in double-figures in all four 2012-13 outings against the Spurs – notching a game-high 25 points on March 1 – while Jason Thompson added an efficient 13.0 points on 53.7 percent from the floor and 6.3 rebounds.
Kings vs. Bulls
Mon. Feb. 3 vs Chicago - 7 p.m.
Sat. March 15 @ Chicago - 5 p.m.
Sacramento routed Chicago 121-79 on March 13, marking the Kings largest margin of victory since Jan. 2, 1993 and biggest blowout win over the Bulls in team history. Six Kings players scored in double-figures, including Thomas (22 points) and Patterson (14 points).
While 2011 NBA MVP Derrick Rose missed the 2012-13 campaign with injury, the talented floor general is expected to return to action this season, setting up enticing backcourt matchups against Vasquez, Thomas and McCallum.
