Boogie Tallies Double-Double in Team USA Victory

An exceptional game versus China on Sunday was followed by a near identical contest by Team USA and DeMarcus Cousins on Tuesday. Cousins ended Sunday’s game with 12 points on 5-of-6 from the floor, picking up right where he left off on Tuesday evening with eight first half points on 2-of-2 shooting.

No. 12’s aggressive play earned him seven first half free throw attempts as the National Team led 52-24.

The United States held the Chinese National Team to just seven field goals and 29 percent shooting at the halftime break, converting on 52 percent of their own attempts.

In his first taste of second half action, Boogie recorded four points, a block and a rebound within just 35 seconds of checking in. The big man ended the third quarter with nine points in the frame alone, second only to Carmelo Anthony’s scorching 16-point quarter.

Cousins logged just under two minutes of play in the final quarter, but ended the night with team-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with an assist, a block and a steal. Carmelo Anthony finished with 20 points en route to the team’s 107-57 victory.

“[Coach K] gave me some opportunities tonight to make some plays from out of the post,” said Cousins following the game. “He was trying to see what that look would be like – I think it was successful so we’ll see if it continues to happen.”

No. 12’s next opportunity to showcase his skills will take place on Friday versus Venezuela at United Center in Chicago.
