Boogie Shines Among Kings All-Time All-Stars

For the second season in a row, the Kings star center DeMarcus Cousins has been named an All-Star.

Boogie becomes the sixth Kings player in the Sacramento era to be honored. With Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic, Vlade Divac, Brad Miller and Mitch Richmond also appearing in the big game.

In the midst of a career season, Big Cuz has stood out amongst his current peers in the NBA today, but how do his numbers compare to the Sacramento All-Stars of the past?

DMC’s average of 27.3 points per game is currently third best in the Association. The number ties Webber, who was also averaging 27.3 per contest leading up to the All-Star break in the 2000-01 season.

The next closest was Richmond, who scored at a clip of 25.7 points before the break in the 1996-97 season in Sacramento.

As for the rebounding department, C-Webb had a slight edge over Boogie’s current rate during the 2015-16 season. No. 4 pulled in 11.4 total rebounds per contest during the 00-01 season, while Big Cuz is just behind at 11.2 per contest. Miller is not far away, either, as the former Kings center posted an average of 10.8 boards in the first half of his All-Star season in 2003-04.

With his second selection, Cousins also tied Peja as the youngest Kings player to be selected on two occasions, as both were 24 and 25-years-old when they were chosen.

Additionally, DMC is the first Sacramento player since Stojakovic to be named to the All-Star squad in consecutive seasons - No. 16 had three straight nods from 2001 to 2004. Richmond currently holds the Sacramento-era record for most All-Star appearances, however, as he was selected six seasons in a row spanning from 1992 to 1997.
