In just six minutes of first quarter play, first-time Olympian DeMarcus Cousins netted seven points and eight rebounds, five of which were on the offensive end. The United States jumped out to a 32-14 lead on the backs of Paul George and Boogie, who combined for 17 points in the opening frame.
Cousins’ aggressive play continued through the first half and after two quarters, No. 12 had tallied nine points and 10 rebounds in under 10 minutes of play.
The United States jumped out to a 23-point advantage at halftime, forcing 14 Argentina turnovers while holding their oppositions leading scorers to just 3-of-10 from the field.
The rout continued in the second half, where the squad built a 41-point lead, eventually defeating Argentina by 37.
DMC finished the game 4-of-6 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line, totaling 14 points and 15 rebounds. Kevin Durant and Paul George led the team in scoring with 24 and 18 points, respectively.
"I think we took a step forward tonight, now we've got to continue to grow."
The National Team will now face China on Sunday in Los Angeles.
