2015-16 Season Breakdown: Quincy Acy

It’s difficult to find a player in the NBA who plays harder than Quincy Acy.

The Kings big man made his return to Sacramento in 2015-16 after playing one season with the New York Knicks. In his second stint with the purple and black, Q provided his trademark hustle and energy… and then some.

While Acy’s minutes were scattered at the beginning of the season, his insertion into the starting lineup in mid-February allowed him to demonstrate just how much he could contribute.

No. 13 would start 22 of the final 29 games, averaging 6.9 points on 55 percent shooting to go with 3.6 rebounds per game.

Q also logged a career-high 2.5 win shares, a metric used to estimate the number of wins an individual contributes to his team throughout a season.

Key Moment

With his high level of intensity on the hardwood, it’s usually not a good idea to get caught in the path of Acy when he’s looking to dunk the basketball. Chris Andersen of the Memphis Grizzlies learned this the hard way when he got put on a poster courtesy of No. 13.

Q would also have an impressive showing against the Los Angeles Lakers, putting on a dunk show en route to a season-high 18 points in Kobe Bryant’s last game in Sacramento.

Quotables

On his mindset while on the court: “Whatever I can do to make an impact on a game, I’m going to try to do it,”

On his approach to the game: “I just go in there and stick my nose in there and do what a lot of people aren’t willing to do,”

On his status as a “hustle” player: “I embrace it. If nobody else in the league does it, then it’s better for me, there’s more playing opportunities for me.”

Looking Forward

With a strong finish to his 2015-16 campaign, Acy will look to continue building on his game heading into next season.

On top of his ability to finish shots around the rim, Q demonstrated his shooting touch from the perimeter. No. 13 knocked down a career-high 38 percent of his three-pointers this season and also shot 50 percent from the 10-to-16 foot range.

The combination of his hustle and versatility makes Acy a valuable asset to any squad and it should continue to earn him opportunities to leave his mark on games in 2016-17.
