What is the Kia Community Assist Award?

Every month, the NBA chooses one player from across the league to receive the Kia Community Assist Award. The award honors the NBA player who best reflects the passion that the league and its players have for giving back to their communities.

Kia Team Spotlight

In addition to Kia's partnership with NBA Cares highlighting the Kia Community Assist Award winner each month, Kia partners with NBA teams throughout the year to make a difference in local communities.

Golden State Warriors

Kia Motors and the Golden State Warriors teamed up with Youth Speaks to present the 17th Annual Teen Poetry Slam on May 11. Teens from all over the Bay Area competed in the two-round slam and the 6 victorious poets will represent the Bay Area at the Chicago finals later this summer. Youth Speaks was presented with a $5,000 donation on behalf of Kia to help subsidize school poetry workshops for more than 15,000 teens.

Miami HEAT

At just 14 years old, Eve Moll knows all about the art of giving. For the past 3 years, the Davie resident has raised more than $30,000 for local nonprofit groups by selling her paintings to the community. The HEAT and Kia commissioned one of them for the Kia vehicle display at the AmericanAirlines Arena. Eve was honored in-game by the HEAT for her work and $7,500 was donated to the charity of her choice as payment for the painting.

Los Angeles Clippers

Every season, Kia Motors presents the Kia Community Service Award to the Clippers player who logs the team’s most community service points. To celebrate, the Clippers donated a new Kia vehicle to a local charity chosen by the fans. Center Ryan Hollins, winner of this season’s Kia Community Service Award, presented a Kia Sedona to the Dream Center at the Clippers’ home game on April 10th.

Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns and Kia collaborate to promote reading amongst the Phoenix youth throughout the school year. On April 2nd, 2013, Phoenix Suns legends, front office staff and The Gorilla visited local elementary schools in the Phoenix region to read to children and donate books. The Suns and Kia visited over 1,000 children, giving each student a Kia and Suns branded gift bag.

Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers and Kia Motors hosted a Read to Achieve spring assembly for over 450 students at Beaver Acres Elementary to celebrate the student body surpassing Oregon’s reading standards. For the school’s achievement, Trail Blazers forwards Luke Babbitt and Joel Freeland read stories and donated a team signed basketball and new books for the school’s library on behalf of Kia.
