The 2008 Gatorade Championship Series of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA made its 14th and final stop in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, April 26th. The Los Angeles area is one (1) of fourteen (14) cities hosting this Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Gatorade Tournament. The Gatorade Championship Series Tournaments have already taken place in Atlanta, Houston, Portland, Toronto, Chicago, Cleveland, Charlotte, Golden State, Washington D.C., New York, Denver, San Antonio and Orlando.

Local Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members in Los Angeles were invited to participate in this special, end of the season tournament for the area’s elite youth basketball players. Participating Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members included Weddington Recreation, Long Beach B&GC, Pan Pacific Recreation, Lake Elsinore, Baldwin Hills Recreation, Who Shook Ya, Victory-Vineland Recreation, Downtown LA B&GC, Banning Recreation, Evergreen Recreation, Cheviot Hills Recreation, Sports Ministries, and Robinson Youth Basketball. Each team was guaranteed at least 2 games in this double elimination, 16 team (8 boys and 8 girls) tournament.

In the boys division, Victory-Vineland dominated the bracket and defended their Championship title from last year by defeating the home court boys from Pan Pacific in the Championship Game.

The Cheviot Hills team proved to be the powerhouse of the tournament in the girls’ bracket. The Cheviot Hills girls defeated a hard-charging Banning Recreation team in overtime.

In the consolation brackets, Weddington took home the boys consolation championship and the ladies from Long Beach B&GC won the girls consolation bracket.
