The 2008 Gatorade Championship Series of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA made its 12th stop in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, January 29th. The Chicago area is one (1) of fourteen (14) cities hosting this Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Gatorade Tournament. The Gatorade Championship Series Tournaments have already taken place in Atlanta, Houston, Portland, Toronto, Charlotte, Golden State, Cleveland, Washington D.C., New York, Denver, San Antonio and Orlando. Los Angeles, in late April, will complete the tournament circuit.
Local Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members in Chicago were invited to participate in this special, mid-season tournament for the area’s elite youth basketball players. Participating Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members included
Kimrossi Taylor’s Basketball Camp Hoopers, Broadview Park, Westcook YMCA, Southwest Patriots, University Park, Orange Crush, Fernwood Park, Hyde Park JCC, Lincoln Way Knights, and Hi-Five Sports. Each team was guaranteed at least 2 games in this double elimination, 16 team (8 boys and 8 girls) tournament.
In the boys division, the Hoopers from Kimrossi Taylor’s Basketball Camp dominated the bracket and took home the title by defeating the Orange Crush in the Championship Game.
The Southwest Patriots White proved to be the powerhouse of the tournament in the girls’ bracket. The Blazers from Kimrossi Taylor’s Basketball Camp came storming back from a huge deficit only to lose with 3 seconds left on a hook shot that wouldn’t fall.
In the consolation brackets, Broadview Park took home the boys consolation championship and the ladies from Hi-Five Sports won the girls consolation bracket.
