The 2008 Gatorade Championship Series of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA made its 2nd stop in Washington, DC on Sunday, March 16th. The Washington DC area is one (1) of fourteen (14) cities hosting this Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Gatorade Tournament. The Gatorade Championship Series Tournaments have already taken place in Atlanta, Houston, Toronto, New York, Charlotte, Golden State, Denver and Portland. Over the next few months, these tournaments will also be held in Cleveland, San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago and Orlando.

Local Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members in Washington DC were invited to participate in this special, end of season tournament for the area’s elite youth basketball players. Participating Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members included Bolling AFB, JPYO, MIBG, Boys and Girls Club of Manassas, Caroline County Park and Recreation, Boys and Girls Clubs of DC, Rockville Parks and Recreation, Baltimore PAL, Montgomery County Park and Recreation, and Neighborhood Hoops. Each team was guaranteed at least 2 games in this double elimination, 16 team (8 boys and 8 girls) tournament.

In the boys division, the Hylton Ballers from the Boys and Gilrs Club of DC - Hylton Branch, dominated the bracket and took home the title by defeating the Virginia Hokies, from the Boys and Girls Club of Manassas in the Championship Game. A nail biter to the end, the boys from the Boys and Girls Club of DC – Hylton Branch came out on top by a very close margin.

The Hylton Mystics, from the Boys and Girls Club of DC – Hylton Branch, also proved to be the powerhouse of the tournament in the girls’ bracket. The Hylton Mystics girls went head-to-head in the Championship game with the ladies from the JYPO Storm. Though it was a very hard fought victory, the Hylton Mystics walked away with the Championship Title.

In the consolation brackets, Bolling Air Force Base took home the boys consolation championship and the ladies from JYPO won the girls consolation bracket.
