Gatorade Championship Series of Golden State!!

The 2008 Gatorade Championship Series of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA 5th stop in the Bay Area on Saturday, March 6th. The Bay Area is one (1) of fourteen (14) cities hosting this Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Gatorade Tournament. The Gatorade Championship Series Tournaments have already taken place in Atlanta, Houston, Toronto, New York, and Portland. Over the next few months, these tournaments will also be held in Charlotte, Denver, San Antonio, Cleveland, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago and Orlando.

Local Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members in Golden State were invited to participate in this special, end of season tournament for the area’s elite youth basketball players. Participating Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA members included North Bay YMCA, B&GC of El Sobrante, Oakland P&R, East Bay Ballers, Cosumnes CSD, B&GC of El Sobrante, City of Richmond, Marin YMCA and Redwood City PAL. Each team was guaranteed at least 2 games in this double elimination, 16 team (8 boys and 8 girls) tournament.

In the boys division, 3-D Basketball from Oakland P&R proved to be the powerhouse and took home the hardware by defeating the East Bay Ballers.

In a nail biter, the ladies from Redwood City PAL walked away with the title, defeating Oakland P&R’s Montera A team by a very, very close margin.

In the consolation brackets, the ‘Phantoms’ from El Sobrante B&GC took home the boys consolation championship and the California Tarheels won the girls consolation bracket.

A special ‘THANKS’ to the Golden State Warriors for their support and for providing Warrior’s headbands and 2007-08 yearbooks to every participant.
