In a land mostly dominated by sticks and pucks, Toronto's 2008 Gatorade Championship Series saw basketball take center stage.

Over 300 participants and spectators took part in the days action at Hoopdome in Toronto.

The games got off to a quick start as coaches, players, officials, and score keepers were all early and ready to go. Raptors staff were on hand to assist with set-up and push their basketball camps and ticket packages.

The day was highlighted by a visit from the Raptor's very own All-Star, Chris Bosh. The visit was very controlled, which allowed for the tournament to continue without a hitch, after he arrived.

Bosh, through his foundation, sponsored a girl's team in the tournament from a local area school. The school was unable to provide a coach for the girl's so their basketball season was canceled. After hearing of the news, Bosh took the team under his wing and sponsored them for the Gatorade Championship Series- so essentially this one tournament was the girl's entire season!

And while his team finished the day 0-2, they were thrilled when Bosh spoke to the team and took team photos with them.

The day culminated with two exciting Championship games in each divison. Again, Bosh was on hand to toss up a ceremonial "jump-ball" to start both the boys and girl's games. He also sat on both team benches and provided some coaching insight.


In the girl's bracket, the team from East Toronto Basketball topped the Philcan Athletic Club 38-35 in a game that came down to the final seconds.

Similarly, on the boys side, a missed three point attempt at the buzzer gave the 6 players from Hamilton East Boys & Girls Club the victory over a talented and deep YAAACE squad.

Gatorade provided giftbags and product for all 160 players. The facility was branded Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA and Gatorade Championship series. All players are provided jerseys with the Gatorade Championship logo.
