SALT LAKE CITY (May 10, 2016) – The Utah Jazz and Larry H. Miller Charities will unveil a new community basketball court this Friday, May 13 at 1:30 p.m. at West Bountiful City Park (550 W. Pages Lane). This will be the 12th completed Jazz court along the Wasatch Front.
The new outdoor court will feature 5,600 square feet of playing surface, six new basketball goals with adjustable heights, backboards, nets, rims and striping in Jazz colors, along with the Jazz logo at center court.
“Gail Miller has said that the communities where we do business should be better because we are there,” said Jay Francis, president of Larry H. Miller Charities. “We hope that in some way adding this basketball court will make this community better and something youth and families will be able to enjoy for years to come.”
Jazz and West Bountiful City officials, as well as Jazz Bear and America First Jazz Dancers will be on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
“We are thrilled to have partnered with the Utah Jazz and Larry H. Miller Charities on this project,” said West Bountiful City Mayor Ken Romney. “This court will give countless young residents the chance to be a member of the Jazz every time they visit their own neighborhood park. We are very appreciative to have been selected for this grant.”
Funding for the project was provided by Larry H. Miller Charities, a nonprofit organization representing the charitable arm of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, in conjunction with West Bountiful City.
Since 2001, a total of 16 Utah Jazz community courts have been built or funded. Other community basketball courts in progress include Farmington (Farmington Sports Complex), Midvale (Bingham Junction), South Salt Lake (Central Park) and Kearns (Lodestone Park).
Previous court locations include: Sugarhouse Park (Salt Lake City); Smith Fields Park (Draper); Fisher Park (Clearfield); Taylorsville Recreation Center (Salt Lake City); Redwood Recreation Center (Salt Lake City); Miller Park (American Fork); Veterans Memorial Park (West Jordan); Palmer Court Housing Development (Salt Lake City); Neptune Park (Saratoga Springs); Ron Wood Memorial Park (West Jordan); and Bonneville Park (Ogden).
