Boozer, Jazz rebound in 113-99 win over Spurs
By DOUG ALDEN, AP Sports Writer
SALT LAKE CITY(AP) Carlos Boozer ended his slump with 27 points and 14 rebounds and the Utah Jazz snapped a two-game losing skid by beating the San Antonio Spurs 113-99 on Thursday night.
Deron Williams also scored 27 and had nine assists in Utah's first win over San Antonio since April 2008. Andrei Kirilenko added 12 points and six assists and rookie Wesley Matthews scored a career high 12 points for Utah, which improved to 2-3.
Tim Duncan had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Tony Parker had 21 points, but scored just four in the second half as the Spurs couldn't overcome the Jazz's shooting.
Boozer finished 12 for 20 and the Jazz went 44 for 83.

POSTGAME QUOTES Utah Jazz 113, San Antonio Spurs 99
Notes: Utah is 69-84 all-time vs. San Antonio and 51-25 all-time vs. the Spurs at EnergySolutions Arena . . . This marks the first time the Jazz has scored 100 points or more vs. the Spurs in a win since 2/28/1999 (101-87)… Utah previously went 37 straight regular season games vs. San Antonio without scoring 100 points… The streak was broken last season in a 100-106 loss on 1/27/09… The Jazz shot 56% from the field in the first half and finished at 53%...Boozer finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds while Deron Williams posted 27 points, nine assists and seven rebounds . . . Tonight was Boozer’s third double-double of the season . . . Boozer tallied season highs in points (27), blocks (2), and offensive rebounds (2) . . . All five Jazz starters scored in double-figures for the second time this season.
Jerry Sloan – Head Coach (2-3 this season) On the game “It was a good win for us after the (Dallas) loss our guys would come back tonight and play. I was proud of the way we played. Everyone was involved, trying to help each other and give us a chance to win. Fortunately we had a big first half and carried it over into the third quarter.”
On the team’s defense
“We played a lot harder. We ran the floor well, a couple of times Parker beat us down the floor and that’s something we want to work on. I know we have the capability to play good (defense).”
Carlos Boozer – Forward [27 points, 14 rebounds) On the game
“For us we’ve got to finish off games like we did tonight. We came back and got a great effort. We should have won both of those games (Houston and Dallas). We’ve got to finish off games. Tonight we came back; everyone had a good effort, especially at the defensive end.”
“It’s a very important win. We needed to play a full 48 minutes of basketball and that’s what we got tonight, prior to this game we hadn’t done that. I’m happy with our effort.”
Deron Williams – Guard (27 points, 9 assists) On the game
“It was a good win for us. We need to put together a full 48 minutes of basketball, and we came out and did that tonight. We just did a good job of executing tonight. We stayed within our offense, we got good shots, and we got stops when we needed them. We didn’t allow them to get too many runs.
On the most points the Jazz have scored against the Spurs in the “Duncan Era”
“They just had an off night tonight. You have to give us credit too. We stayed within our game plan tonight, we got the stops we needed, we played for 48 minutes. I was in a bad mood the last couple of days. It feels good to win. It’s a lot more fun to win than to lose and it was leaving a bad taste in our mouths. Hopefully we can continue and get another win at home and then go on this long east-coast swing that hasn’t been too kind to us it the past.”
Wesley Mathews – Guard ( 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals) On his game
“I still think I can do better. I feel like I can always get better, every player can always get better. I just have to keep going out there proving myself, making sure that I’m bringing energy everyday. Coach Sloan and the coaching staff and the players are showing a lot of confidence in me. I just have to keep going out there and playing hard.”
On attacking the basket
“Attacking the basket I feel is one of my strong suits. If I get a lane I’m going to take it.”
Notes: This is the Spurs first loss against the Jazz in their last five meetings… The Spurs are now 23-7 in their last 30 meetings against the Jazz, but in their last 10 in Utah they are only 3-7…The Spurs allowed the Jazz to score 60 points in the first half, the most by an opponent this season…. Tony Parker scored 17 points in the first half, the most so far this season by a Spurs player, but was held to just four points in the second half, finishing the game with 21 points… Since Tim Duncan joined the Spurs prior to the 1997-98 season, the team has the best record in the NBA with a 671-285 mark giving them a winning percentage of .702.
Gregg Popovich – Head Coach (2-2 this season) On the game
“The whole game was about physicality and execution and in both areas Utah was far superior than we were. Across the board, that’s the game.”
On the Spurs defense
“I don’t think we are a very good defensive team right now, we’ve got a lot of work to do to become a good defensive team and Utah obviously took advantage of that tonight. They executed really well.”
On the Jazz defense
“They are always an aggressive club and they do a great job of fighting for 48 minutes and tonight was a great example of that.”
Manu Ginobili – Guard [11 points, 2 assists] On the Jazz effort
“They played much better. They went to the boards harder. We know they are a tough team, and we didn’t match their toughness and aggressiveness. It’s the way Utah plays. Usually we are good enough to match their energy. Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer had great games. We didn’t have many players playing well. That made a difference.”
On Deron Williams
“He is one of the best point guards in the league. Players like him can dominate a game, can make the other team misplay, and score when it’s needed. Players like him, Chris Paul, and Tony Parker can do that. You know what you are facing when you play Utah.”
Tim Duncan – Forward [15 points, 13 rebounds] On the Jazz
“They played well tonight. They played real physical. They got the momentum going early on, and got rewarded for their physical play. We knew it would be that kind of game.”
On early season growing pains
“It’s too early to worry about ups and downs. I think every team is going through growing pains right now, whether they have been together forever, or putting some new pieces together. It’s all about getting through the early season jitters.”
