Burke also registered 12 games with 20-plus points, and handed out 10 or more assists on seven occasions. During NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, he was also selected to the 2014 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge and won the 2014 Taco Bell Skills Challenge. Burke finished third in 2013-14 NBA Rookie of the Year balloting.
Joining Burke on the NBA All-Rookie First Team are Michael Carter-Williams (Philadelphia), Victor Oladipo (Orlando), Mason Plumlee (Brooklyn) Burke’s collegiate teammate Tim Hardaway Jr. (New York). The NBA All-Rookie Second Team (which was added beginning in 1988-89) is Kelly Olynyk (Boston), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee), Gorgui Dieng (Minnesota), Cody Zeller (Charlotte) and Steven Adams (Oklahoma City).
Burke received the third-highest point total of any NBA rookie, garnering 108 first-place votes and 14 second-place votes for a total of 230 points, trailing only Carter-Williams (250) and Oladipo (248).
The voting panel consisted of 125 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes. The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP.
