“This is a bittersweet decision for me. Both my dad and myself have loved owning and operating the team in Salt Lake,” said Hilary Drammis. “Due to my personal commitments and responsibilities, I felt it was time to pursue selling the business and who better to than Larry Miller. Larry encouraged my dad to bring Triple-A baseball back to Salt Lake City. My father liked and respected Larry and they shared a passion for baseball. Larry is a wonderful person to negotiate and work with and under his excellent management team, baseball will continue to flourish in Salt Lake.”
The letter of intent follows last month’s marketing agreement created by the Stingers and the Miller group to promote ticket sales, suite sales, team sponsorships and advertising in conjunction with the Utah Jazz.
“With great views of baseball, framed by magnificent mountains, Franklin Covey Field is the best place to watch baseball in the United States,” said Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson. “The purchase of the Stingers by Larry H. Miller, a man who has demonstrated his deep commitment to our community, will ensure that quality baseball at Franklin Covey Field will be played long into the future.”
The day-to-day management of the Stingers will be under General Manager Marc Amicone with oversight from Sports and Entertainment President Dennis Haslam and Owner Larry Miller. Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment brings over ninety years of collective experience in sports marketing to the Salt Lake Stingers. The team is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“The management team at the Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment Group is looking forward to taking on the operation of the Salt Lake Stingers,” said Haslam. “We are like minded with the City and the Buzas family in our commitment to making a difference in Utah baseball. We plan to make Stingers baseball a special place for families to gather and spend their leisure time developing lasting memories. ”
The Stingers are a member of the AAA Pacific Coast League and have been affiliated with the 2002 World Series Champion, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of the American League since 2001. The team originally relocated to Salt Lake City from Portland in 1994 as the Salt Lake Buzz, when they were affiliated with the Minnesota Twins. Opening day for the Salt Lake Stingers is April 7, 2005. For tickets or additional information, call 801- 325-BASE.
