Korver Reaches Out to Community – Joins Jazz in Coat Drive

With his strong athletic skills and smooth jump shot, Kyle Korver is a force to be reckoned with on court.  But the Jazz forward makes his presence felt off court as well by reaching out to those in need.

Shortly after his professional career started, Korver knew he wanted more than just basketball in his life and he eventually formed his own nonprofit foundation.  While with the Philadelphia 76ers, he began mentoring troubled inner-city youth.  In 2008, he visited India as part of the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program and this past summer he raised money for charity through a dodge ball tournament cosponsored by Deron Williams.  Korver is currently focused on providing winter coats to local underserved individuals and families – a program he began last year.

Korver and the Utah Jazz will sponsor a coat drive at the Sacramento Kings vs. Utah Jazz game on Saturday, November 7, 2009.  Patrons attending the game that night will receive a designated voucher for each new coat (tags still attached) that they donate at the arena doors.  Each voucher will allow two individuals entrance to a postgame autograph session with Kyle Korver.  Korver will sign complimentary photos that will be made available to participants, or fans may substitute personal items if preferred.  (Only one autograph per voucher permitted.)  Coats will be donated to the Utah Dream Center and the Salt Lake Education Foundation.
